THE WEDNESDAY WORD…
for
September 27, 2023
Because waiting ‘til Sunday is too long.
“And Jesus said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and come like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3
Welcome to THE WEDNESDAY WORD, a weekly communication
of Emmanuel United Methodist.
IT'S BACK – COFFEE HOUR BEGINS AGAIN
This Sunday, October 1st, Coffee Hour is back!. There will be decaf coffee and snacks that may vary from week to week so we’re just calling it Coffee Hour. The coffee will be ready by 8:30 a.m. each Sunday so you will have plenty of time to enjoy your coffee as you meet friends, new and existing.
Wally and Joan Sprague currently do the Coffee Hour and they need two additional people to help them out, particularly for those Sundays when they are not available. Stop by and find out more. Maybe this is the perfect place for you to volunteer to help!

ST. JOHN’S BIBLE
Back in the days that I went on retreat with our United Methodist monastery, St. Brigid of Kildare, we mostly went to St. John’s Abbey in Minnesota. That was soon after the work had begun on the St. John’s Bible, a modern-day Bible created by using the ancient practices of hand writing the text in calligraphy and illuminating or illustrating the Bible as done by monks centuries ago. The entire St. John’s Bible was hand-written by a handful of calligraphers chosen for the project. In addition, there were those who would provide beautiful illuminations of the text. I have seen portions of this Bible in person at St. John’s where it is usually displayed. It is magnificent. If you click or the link below, it will take you to an article about a portion of the Bible that was taken to a prison as the Bible was being shown at various locations around the United States. I have a printed copy of the original for the book of Psalms that I will bring to my office. Anyone interested is welcome to stop in and see it. : https://stories.divinity.duke.edu/saintjohnsbible/
