OUR MINISTRIES

MISSIONS & OUTREACH

We believe our mission is to participate in God's mission to restore Creation and draw people to Christ through ministries of love
and reconciliation in our community. Through these ministries and partnerships, our members have the opportunity to become
the living presence of Christ in someone’s life.

Turning Points

Providing, facilitating and coordinating services to the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless in Manatee County.  The Open Door Day Resource Center provides a variety of services to registered clients to assist them with improving their living situations, helping them move along a path of stability toward independence. Services range from access to continental breakfast, hot showers, and free clothing to obtaining legal documents and public assistance.

Volunteer Needs

It takes 15 volunteers daily to operate the basic services provided to men and women, computer assistance, employment assistance, personal hygiene needs, haircuts, shoes, laundry service and more. Operation hours are 8:30am - 2pm, daily. Contact Cheryl Hedger at hedger@tpmanatee.org for more information.

Red Bird Mission

Red Bird Mission, guided by Jesus Christ, empowers individuals and advocates justice by providing spiritual, educational, health and community outreach ministries. Red Bird Mission runs a K-12 school for 236 children. They also operate a food bank and a health clinic. The Red Bird Home Build Project, a joint effort between Work Camp and St. Marks United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, TN, is nearing completion.

Volunteer Needs

There are many volunteers currently serving this mission, but financial support continues to be their deepest need. Contact Kari Collins, executive director, at rbm@rbmission.org for more information or to make a donation.

Anchor House

The Anchor House mission is to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of international seafarers. Anchor House is a faith-based organization that is supported by donations of faithful people all over Manatee County as well as nearby counties. They are reaching out to the seafarers of the world through Port Manatee with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The seafarers come to Anchor House in need of supplies, internet connections (to contact their families) and counseling. They are given Bibles in their own languages.

Volunteer Needs

Anchor House is especially in need of volunteers to drive the seafarer's van. Drivers will take seafarers to Walmart to shop in the early evening. Small teams or couples are needed to come during the day to greet seafarers, clean, and prepare meals. For more information, contact Tim Huppert at tim@anchorhousemission.com.

Agape Flights

Agape Flights provides excellent aviation services delivering cargo, mail and humanitarian aid to missionary partners serving Christ, carrying hope to the nations of the Caribbean. Agape Flights equips over 300 missionaries by delivering their mail, keeping them in touch with families, supporters and sending organizations. They connect missionaries to professional services, volunteers who shop for them, sponsors of mission projects, and disaster relief efforts.

Volunteer Needs

Volunteer needs include assistance with or finances for items around the hangar, including locating a new generator, repairing an airplane or weighing packages. You can also sign up for a short-term mission trip. For more information, visit agapeflights.com.

Habitat for Humanity

Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. They have chosen to manifest God's love by creating opportunities for all people to live in decent, durable homes. Recently, four new homes have been completed in Manatee County and they are presently working to complete three more homes in the Village of the Arts. Investing in new homes, along with neighborhood revitalization efforts by residents and community organizations, is transforming the area and improving the quality of life for all.

Volunteer Needs

Manatee volunteers assist in all areas including construction, ReStore and general operations. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for ages 16 and up, according to matching interests and availability. Volunteers work on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday mornings from 7:30am - 12pm. For more information, contact Barbara Slater at (941) 748-9100, ext. 110.

The Food Bank of Manatee County

Working to ensure that no child, family or senior citizen is going hungry. The Food Bank provides nutritional assistance and caring supportive services to individuals in need throughout Manatee County by distributing food to non-profit agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens and churches. Families in crisis situations can receive food packages on a temporary basis, as well as infant care baskets.

Volunteer Needs

Volunteers are needed to sort and stack supplies that come in from collection barrels placed throughout Manatee County. Also, drivers or driver substitutes are needed to deliver supplies to other non-profit agencies in Manatee County. To fill out a volunteer application, contact Scot Moeckel at smoeckel@foodbankofmanatee.org.

Harvest House Transitional Centers

Provides affordable, faith-based residential drug and alcohol treatment and supportive services for individuals whose lives have become unmanageable due to life-limiting patterns of homelessness. They serve veterans, recently-released prisoners, and families in transition who need emergency shelter. Harvest House builds vibrant, affordable communities as well as support services to help families remain stable in their housing.

Volunteer Needs

Financial donations are currently the deepest need. To donate, contact Harvest House at info@harvesthousecenters.com.

Manatee Religious Services

Connecting families and individuals who are hurting or in crises to caring churches who can help and share the love of Christ. MRS is a clearing house for individuals to receive help in crisis situations. It removes the necessity of vetting individuals for financial needs as they are received in local churches. This organization is supported financially with donations from many churches in Manatee County.

Volunteer Needs

Volunteers are needed to sit in the office and take/return phone calls and help individuals fill out applications over the phone. Training is provided. There is also need for volunteers to assist with fundraising events, church connections or other administrative duties. To fill out a volunteer application, contact MRS at info@mcma-mrs.org.
