THE WEEKDAY WORD…
FEB 19, 2026
Lent Begins
Lent began this week with ashes on our foreheads and an invitation in our hearts. In the morning, neighbors paused in their busy schedules to receive ashes in our parking lot, a brief but holy moment of remembering: we are dust, and to dust we shall return. In the evening, others gathered in the sanctuary for a self-guided time of reflection, prayer, and quiet examination. Whether seated in silence before the wilderness images of Christ, standing before a mirror in prayer, laying down a stone of burden, or receiving ashes through a car window, we began this season with honesty and hope.

Lent is not simply about giving something up. It is about making space — space to return, to listen, to follow more closely. This year, our Awakened to Grace series offered practical ways to shape that journey. Scripture grounds us in truth. Prayer opens us to God’s transforming presence. Silence helps us hear what we often drown out. Sabbath invites us to trust rather than strive. Fasting clarifies our hunger for God. Service turns our repentance outward in love of neighbor. Each practice becomes a pathway, guiding us from ashes toward resurrection.
As this season unfolds, the invitation remains before us: to examine our ways, return to the Lord, and follow Christ more faithfully. Lent is a journey we walk together, sustained not by our willpower but by grace. May these forty days awaken our hearts and prepare us for the joy of Easter morning.
New Book Study
This Sunday during our Sunday School hour, we are beginning our study with Adam Hamilton’s new book, “Why Did Jesus Have to Die?” This book helps us to explore the meaning of the Crucifixion, its atoning work and our place in this story.
Sunday School is held after worship each week in the Fellowship Hall, beginning around 10:45am.
Bring your book, a Bible, pen, and maybe a journal as we learn dive into theology together!

STREAM Worship Service
This Monday, Emmanuel is hosting an Interfaith Service of Lament and Healing led by STREAM (Stronger Together Reaching Across Manatee). The service is at 6:30pm. It will be a time to pray for our county and the many issues plaguing our neighbors.
In this way, STREAM is going back to its roots, beginning its ministry of justice rooted in prayer.
I hope you will come and invite others in the community.

In Christ's Love,
