Praying for Peace
May 7, is the National Day of Prayer, a tradition since 1952 to encourage Americans of faith to turn to God in prayer and meditation. A timely and necessary prayer comes from our own Book of Worship in a Litany for the Church and the World. I often go to this litany as a way of growing my prayers beyond my immediate needs and considering God’s care for the World. As you offer your prayers tomorrow in concert with so many across our country, I hope that this litany is a helpful guide. Let us pray...

Grant, almighty God, that all who confess your name may be united in your truth, live together in your love, and reveal your glory in the world. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Guide the people of this land, and of all the nations, in the ways of justice and peace; that we may honor one another and serve the common good. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Give us all a reverence for the earth as your own creation, that we may use its resources rightly in the service of others and to your honor and glory. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Bless all whose lives are closely linked with ours, and grant that we may serve Christ in them, and love one another as Christ loves us. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Comfort and heal all those who suffer in body, mind, or spirit; give them courage and hope in their troubles, and bring them the joy of your salvation. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We commend to your mercy all who have died, that your will for them may be fulfilled; and we pray that we may share with all your saints in your eternal kingdom. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We offer these prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Sunday School: Fruit of the Spirit
This Sunday we are beginning a new Sunday School journey for the next 9 weeks, as we dive into the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22). Our Conference’s yearlong emphasis: Awakened to Grace has been exploring the Fruit of the Spirit as a sign of God’s gracious work within us.
Our second fruit to be explored is Joy. Bring your Bibles, a notebook and a curiosity as we explore a fruit that is the foundation for all to come.
You might also want to check out the Conference resources at wesleyanrooted.com including a daily devotional and a weekly podcast.
See you in McKay Hall at 10:45am!
